Prepare for Graduate or Professional School

In the College of Arts & Sciences you build the skills you need to be successful in graduate and/or professional school. Our majors and pre-professional programs provide the courses, experiences, and advising to get you to that next level.

Research and Creative Activity

Students participate in research or creative activities through courses and paid opportunities. From being cast in a musical theater production to conducting exacavations at an archaelogical site to researching genes invovled in breast cancer, our students are deeply engaged in their disciplines. A variety of student resources are available through our Institute for Student Research and Creativity. NKU annually hosts the Celebration of Student Research & Creativity in which students present their recent research and creative works. Our students also present their work at national and international conferences such as the Society of Toxicology meeting.

A few projects include:

  • community-based ethnographic research in Belize
  • investigating the effects of antipsychotic drugs on brain development
  • design and development of anticancer drug candidates
  • student production of "Carrie: The Musical"

Check out the individual program to find out about more opportunities.

Funds to Support Research and Creative Activity

Our students are supported through grants to help with travel to conferences or research sites, supplies for research or creative activity, or funds to purchase the rights to produce plays. Students are encouraged to write their own proposals for the Student Undergraduate Research & Creative Award (SURCA) and the Student Presentation & Publication Award (SPPA).
