S3OAR Scholars Program

The Sustainable, Scalable Scholarships, Opportunities, Achievements, and Results (S3OAR) Scholars Program is designed to help low-income academically talented STEM majors at NKU succeed in their undergraduate studies and prepare for their future career. S3OAR Scholars are a cohort of STEM undergraduate students that participate in academic and extracurricular activities designed to promote individual growth as a STEM major.

 

Program Features

  • Students with financial need are eligible for scholarship money*
  • Priority Registration each semester
  • Peer Mentoring from upperclassmen STEM Majors
  • Faculty Mentoring from STEM faculty members
  • Enrollment in orientation course to help you navigate your first year at NKU and prepare you for your future career
  • Participation in research/job shadowing opportunities
  • Special recognition as a S3OAR Scholar for all eligible years
  • Placement in a learning community cohort with fellow STEM Scholars
  • Opportunity to participate in living community with other STEM majors in NKU residence hall.
     

Eligibility

  • Score a 23 Mathematics ACT or higher
  • Apply for admission as a first-time full-time freshman by February 15, 2019*
  • Choose one of the following STEM programs of study when you fill out your application:

Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Data Science, Electronics Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Neuroscience, Physics, or Statistics

  • Attend our open house event in the spring and interview for the program.

 

*To be considered for scholarship money, you must complete the FAFSA application by February 1, 2019.

 

How do I apply?

If you meet the eligibility requirements stated above, you will be placed on a list of eligible S3OAR Scholars. There is no additional application required to be considered. Select eligible students will be invited to participate in an on campus open house and interview for final selections. All students are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA application. Information on this can be found on NKU's Financial Aid Website. It is recommended to have your FAFSA completed by February 1st, 2019.
