Defining Faculty Affiliates

Women's & Gender Studies Faculty Affiliates include faculty under contract with Northern Kentucky University:

  • who have full-time appointments in departments other than WGS;
  • who have taught at least one course listed as a WGS course over the past four years;
  • and whose teaching, research, and/or service is substantially and appropriately connected to Women's & Gender Studies, as determined by the Women's & Gender Studies Curriculum and Steering Committees.

For every WGS-designate course they teach, Women's & Gender Studies faculty will ensure that the course syllabus for the relevant semester is on file. Syllabi must be sent in by the end of the second week of classes each semester.

Every other year (even years), all Women's & Gender Studies faculty will see that a copy of their current curriculum vitae is on file in the program office.

Requesting Faculty Affiliate Status

To become a member of the Women's & Gender Studies faculty, faculty with full-time appointments in departments other than WGS should send the following materials by email to the chair of the History & Geography Department:

  • a brief statement of how your teaching, research, and/or service is substantially and appropriately connected to Women's & Gender Studies;
  • a syllabus for the course you would like the committee to consider as an approved elective or cross-listed course, or a sample syllabus or detailed outline for a course you wish to teach in the future, including texts and assignments;
  • a current curriculum vitae (as a file attachment formatted as .pdf or .doc);
  • and a separate email message or letter from your department chair supporting your application for faculty affiliate status and acknowledging a willingness to cross-list some of your courses with a WGS course with at least 5 seats.

These materials may be sent by campus mail to 415 Landrum Academic Center.

Requesting To Cross-List a Course

A section of a course that is cross-listed with a WGS section must be approved by the WGS Curriculum Advisory Committee for cross-listing. In order to be cross-listed, the course must serve to advance one or more of the stated objectives for the WGS minor. Please provide:

  • a current curriculum vitae (for SACS faculty roster purposes);
  • a digital copy of the course syllabus;
  • an indication of which of the SLOs for the WGS minor will be achieved through the course;
  • a brief (1-2 sentence) statement of your qualifications for teaching this particular course for Women's & Gender Studies (for SACS);
  • and the course specifics for scheduling, including days and times it will be offered and the call number.

These materials may be sent by campus mail to 415 Landrum Academic Center.
