In order to prepare for a career in actuarial sciences, the following course progression is recommended: 

First year: 

  • MAT 129 - Calculus I (fall)
  • MAT 229 - Calculus II (spring)
  • STA 250 - Probability & Statistics I (spring)

Second year: 

  • STA 340 - Probability II (fall)
  • MAT 329 - Calculus III (fall)
  • MAT 350 - Financial Mathematics (spring, odd years)
  • STA 450 - Introduction to Actuarial Science (spring, even years)

Third year: 

  • MAT 350 - Financial Mathematics (spring, odd years)
  • STA 450 - Introduction to Actuarial Science (spring, even years)

A customized degree plan can be created with an advisor in order to ensure requirements are met in a timely manner to increase the likelihood of securing an internship. 


Notes
  • MAT 350 is preparation for the FM Exam (Financial Mathematics)
  • STA 450 is preparation for the P Exam (Probability)

Note:  These courses are not prerequisites for the preliminary exams (Exams P, FM) and may be fulfilled independently of the exam process.
