The Department of World Languages and Literatures was formed in the summer of 2008 to put more emphasis on understanding and appreciating other cultures.
The 10 languages we offer reflect different regions around the world. Under the guidance of our capable faculty, students also learn the literature, history and culture of other countries to prepare them for an increasingly multilingual and multicultural society.
Teacher certification is available in three languages in conjunction with the College of Education. Knowing a second language can also help students acquire jobs in other professions, such as international business, government, law, science, nursing, social work and tourism.
