Northern Kentucky University offers international study opportunities in more than 30 countries through the Office of Education Abroad.

Students in the Department of World Languages and Literatures are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities because they can  take college courses while personally experiencing a country's language, literature and culture on a daily basis.

The department offers the Foreign Language Award for International Study (FLAIS) to help offset the travel costs. Students who apply and meet the criteria for the award can receive up to $500.

In addition, majors in French, Spanish, and German can apply for the Carol Swarts Milburn Scholarship and majors in German can apply for the Award for German Study Abroad.

Kentucky Institute of International Studies, a program supported by a consortium of Kentucky colleges and universities, sponsors both summer and semester programs in several countries, including France, Germany, Mexico and Spain.

Students interested in participating in any of the OEA opportunities should meet with their World Languages and Literatures advisor prior to scheduling a trip to discuss whether the courses offered will count as semester credits at NKU.
