Students pursuing a major in Spanish with teaching certification (39 semester hours) will need to complete a second major in Secondary (8-12) and P-12 Education in the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS). Basic program information can be found here.
In addition to fulfilling 36 hours in the Spanish major curriculum, students seeking P-12 teaching certification must complete SPI 350 Methods of Teaching Spanish and all required teacher education and general education courses.
Students entering NKU under the 2010-2011 catalog or later must include either SPI 401: Spanish Phonetics and Pronunciation or SPI 402: Advanced Spanish Grammar and Syntax as part of their major curriculum.
Upon deciding to pursue the teacher education program, students must schedule an appointment in the advising center of the College of Education and Human Services and with the certification advisor in Spanish.
They must also fulfill all department requirements involving the portfolio and other required assessments as specified in the Majors' Handbook for Department of World Languages and Literatures.
