What is a QEP?

The Quality Enhancement Plan is a component of the reaffirmation process for all universities accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The purpose of any QEP is to improve student learning and success. At NKU, our QEP (2019-2024) is focused on information literacy.

What is Information Literacy?

Guided by the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education (ACRL), we use the following information literacy definition:

"Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participate ethically in communities of learning."

Why are we GEARED UP for Information Literacy?

The NKU community selected GEARUP as the QEP in 2017 after a robust proposal process.  Information literacy is relevant to every discipline and provides a valuable foundation to navigate, make sense of, and participate in an always evolving information environment. The goal of GEARUP is to ensure all NKU students learn information literacy concepts that will help them succeed academically, professionally, and civically.
