Evan Anthony is a seasoned, high-energy executive, with over 38 years in retail grocery/drug, including 31 years with The Kroger Company. In his last 10 years with Kroger, Evan had responsibility for all corporate marketing, advertising, customer loyalty, and consumer research. Overall, his experience includes 10 years of store management, 15 years of division management, and 13 years of corporate executive leadership in marketing, advertising, customer loyalty, and consumer research.
During his tenure as the head of Marketing at Kroger, the company experienced unprecedented success, including 40 straight quarters of positive same store sales growth. Some of the keys to that success were new programs that Evan was key in launching, including fuel rewards, best customer growth strategy (which included dunnhumby insights), Gift Card Mall, and Kroger Financial Services. In addition, Evan led a complete reorganization of the companies marketing, advertising, loyalty and consumer research structure, and developed more streamlined and efficient processes.
Evan has a passion for helping company’s grow through “Big Idea” innovation and true process change. He has had great success creating profitable promotions that drive sales, but he also understands the need to manage cost. As Kroger continued to see a sales growth of 3-5% for 10 consecutive years, the marketing spend remained virtually flat.
In addition to his executive leadership, Evan is also an accomplished speaker, presenter and influencer in the retail marketing space. Evan has been listed as one of 2010, 2011, 2012’s ” Who’s Who” in marketing, plus a 2012 “Path to Purchase Institute Hall of Fame” inductee.
