Professor and Chair
Dr. J.C. “Duke” Thompson is a professor of finance in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Business Law at Northern Kentucky University. He received his doctorate in finance and statistics from the University of Kentucky in 1990, his MBA in finance from Youngstown State University (OH) in 1983 and his BA in accounting from Westminster College (PA) in 1976.
His research and teaching interests encompass the areas of financial markets and institutions, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance and ethics. Dr. Thompson has presented numerous papers at regional and national conferences and has published in various finance and ethics journals.
Prior to pursuing his academic career, Dr. Thompson spent 10 years with the Automotive Products Division of Rockwell International in finance and manufacturing positions in various geographical locations. Additionally, he was the CFO of an equipment leasing company in the Pittsburgh area and a tax accountant with Arthur Andersen in Detroit.
He currently serves as a director of Bluegrass Bancshares in Lexington, KY and is a founding shareholder and consultant to several online media companies.
Dr. Thompson is a member of the Eastern Finance Association, the Midwest Finance Association and the Society of Automotive Engineers.
