A student-athlete at NKU may either be on a full scholarship, also known as a full grant-in-aid, or a partial grant-in-aid scholarship. The amount awarded to the student-athlete is determined by that sport’s head coach. Included in a full grant-in-aid are tuition (which may or may not cover certain fees), room, board and required books. A partial grant-in-aid scholarship may cover some or part of the tuition, room, board, and/or required books. Your grant-in-aid amount will be documented on your Aid Agreement and the period of these awards cannot exceed one year. If you have questions regarding your grant-in-aid and what it covers, contact your head coach.
Your Cost of Attendance, or COA, is something that is calculated by the Office of Student Financial Assistance. Included in the COA are tuition, room, board, books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses. Your athletics grant-in-aid amount shall not exceed the university’s COA.
Increase, Reduction or Cancellation of Aid
If you are a recipient of a grant-in-aid scholarship, your award is given on a one-year basis. Each year you are eligible for playing, you will receive notification in writing by July 1st as to whether your scholarship has been renewed, reduced, or cancelled.
Also, it is possible that your head coach may request for your scholarship to be increased during a given award year. If your scholarship amount increases, you will be required to sign a renewal agreement for the athletic department.
