EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION AND … TROUT?
9am
SU 105
Fly fishing is an elegant sport. The grace of the casting motion is often compared to dance. Mostly, however, the two are unrelated. Not so in a class taught by SOTA’s Teresa VanDenend Sorge in the Fall 2022 semester. Her students read the literary classic “A River Runs Through It” by Norman Maclean and its sequel by his son John, “Home Waters.” They then created an original dance and music interpreting the themes of the two books (nature, conservation, family, remembrance). They performed the dance last October at the Cincinnati Art Museum before John Maclean took the stage to read from his book. VanDenend Sorge and her students will discuss their experience and share a video of the dance. Moderated by Mark Neikirk, executive director, NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement.
