Soil Lead Concentrations in Urban Gardens

The Schwarz Lab is using handheld x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers to quantify soil lead concentrations in urban gardens of Cincinnati and map the distribution using Geographic Information Systems.

The XRF provides real time data that allows for dynamic discussions of spatial pattern in the field, and promotes active learning and critical thinking.

Data generated from this project will be analyzed to determine how the distribution of soil lead relates to the social and built environment of Cincinnati.
