The Driftwood Institute: Art and trees are taking root in Covington
The Driftwood Institute is a public art project that is helping transform the riverbanks of Covington Kentucky into a more ecologically sound place.
Northern Kentucky University students and professor of art, Brad McCombs collect driftwood along the Ohio and Licking Rivers in Covington and help clean up trash along the way. They transform this collected timber into furniture and sculptural designs that will be for sale at art festivals and galleries.
All proceeds from the sale of the driftwood artworks will go to replant trees along the riverbanks through a partnership with Taking Root and Green Umbrella.
