Connecting to the NKU Wireless Network

This article explains the different wireless networks across the NKU campus, the requirements to join each wireless network, as well as the access of each wireless network.

Norse_Net


Norse_Net is the recommended wireless network for all NKU Faculty, Staff, and Students.


Requirements

The Norse_Net wireless network requires an active NKU account. When connecting to the Norse_Net wireless network, you will need to enter your NKU credentials to access the wireless network. If asked for a domain, enter "hh.nku.edu".

 

Access

The Norse_Net wireless network grants access to all NKU internal services such as shared drives (J: and K: drives). 

 

How to Connect

  1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your device (a NKU-issued Dell laptop is shown here), and click "NORSE_NET".

  1. You will see a message asking if you wish to continue connecting.  Click "Connect".

  1. Enter your NKU username and password.

  1. You will then be connected to NORSE_NET.

Additional Steps for iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the "Settings" app, then tap "Wi-Fi".  Tap the information icon for NORSE_NET.  Turn off "Private Address".

  1. Tap "NORSE_NET" and log in with your NKU username and password.

  1. If you have not connected to the network before, you will see a NKU's certificate page.  Tap "Trust".

  1. Your device will then connect to the network.

 

Norse_Guest


Norse_Guest is the recommended wireless network for any NKU guests, such as parents, friends of students, or vendors.  NKU students can also use Norse_Guest if they cannot connect their device to the Norse_Net wireless network.


Requirements

Norse_Guest uses a Web Authorization page called NetReg (https://netreg.nku.edu) to register devices to either an NKU account or a guest account.  Guests are allowed to create a guest account through the Web Authorization page.  If the device does not have a web browser to complete registration, you can follow the instructions for manually registering devices at the Wireless/Wired Device Registration KB article.

 

Access

Guest accounts will only have access to the Internet.  The Norse_Guest wireless network grants NKU Faculty, Staff, and Students limited access to NKU internal services such as shared drives (J: and K: drives).

 

How to Connect

Open the Wi-Fi settings on your device.

Note: If you are connecting an iPhone or iPad, first tap the information icon for NORSE_GUEST.  Turn off "Private Address".

  1. In the Wi-Fi settings on your device (an iPhone is shown here), and select "NORSE_GUEST".

  1. You will immediately be directed to the NetReg page.  Select the link at the bottom of the page: "Or register for guest access".

  1. Enter your First Name, Last Name, and Email Address.  Read the Terms and Conditions, then check "I agree to the terms and conditions".  Click or tap "Register".

  1. Your account will be created and you will be presented with the confirmation page.

  1. Your account information, including your password, will be emailed to you.

  1. Return to the NetReg login page and enter your username and password.

  1. You will then be prompted to either continue to the network, or manage your devices.  If you have devices to register, such as a gaming device, select "Manage my Devices".  Otherwise, select "Continue to Network" and skip to step 9.

8. The Device Registration page will then show.  To register a device, follow the instructions on the screen.

  1. You will then receive a confirmation message that you are connected and have Internet access.

Norse_Village

Norse_Village is the wireless network exclusively for students residing in any NKU University Housing.
 

Requirements

Norse_Village uses a Web Authorization page called NetReg (https://netreg.nku.edu) to register devices to either an NKU account or a guest account.  Guests are allowed to create a guest account through the Web Authorization page. If the device does not have a web browser to complete registration, you can follow the instructions for manually registering devices at the Wireless/Wired Device Registration KB article.

 

Access

 

The Norse_Village wireless network will only have access to the Internet.


How to Connect

  1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your device (an iPhone is shown here), and select "NORSE_VILLAGE".
