Popular Services for Students

Blackboard and Canvas: Most classes use this learning management software to share course documents, upload assignments and communicate electronically. We are in the middle of switching from Blackboard to Canvas, so you may have classes in either. Log onto one.nku.edu for both. 
 
Computer Labs: We have computer labs all over campus. We also offer a virtual computer lab that allows you to access software in labs from wherever you are.
 
Charging Stations for Mobile Devices : Quick charge stations for charging smartphones are located throughout campus.
 
Email: You are provided a lifetime NKU email address by the University. Learn more about email . Email on Smartphones: Follow these instructions , visit the Norse Tech Bar or contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
 
Emergency Text Messaging: Sign up for Norse A!ert to receive text message notifications if the University closes and other important information. Norse Alert messages are managed by University Police.  
 
Equipment Checkout: Students can stop by the Norse Tech Bar to check out tablets, laptops and cameras. The checkout period is 5 days.
 
File Storage: Students and employees are offered free cloud storage on Microsoft OneDrive. OneDrive is available where ever you have internet access, works on all devices, and provides massive storage space. Learn more.
 
Discounts on Apple, Dell and Western Digital: We have negotiated discounts on certain computer models through Dell and Apple. Check out our configuration page for specs. Also, save on external storage solutions through Western Digital.
 
Help: Students have two options for getting technology assistance. If you are on campus, visit the Norse Tech Bar in the University Center for troubleshooting, advice, equipment lending and more. If you are off campus, contact our IT Help Desk via chat, phone or submitting a service request.
 
Internet Access: There are multiple Wi-Fi networks on campus. Visit our network page for more information on which connection is best suited for your needs. Also, learn how students living in residential housing can connect a smart device to the Wi-Fi.
 
Microsoft Office: Active students can use Microsoft Office 365 free of charge. The software can be downloaded on computers and mobile devices. Note that you must be actively registered for classes to be able to log in to use this software. Get installation instructions . And don't forget to install OneDrive so you can store all your files in the cloud and access them anytime, anywhere and from any device.
 
Mobile Apps:  NKU was one of the first universities in the nation to have an iPhone app. Visit the Apple and Android apps stores to download the NKU app, GoNorse (athletics) and more!
 
Norse Tech Bar : The NTB is the walk-in center for technology help.  We can help with software, remove viruses, loan laptops/tablets, assist with printing and more. Stop by University Center. And follow us on twitter @nkutechbar.
 
myNKU: myNKU is the web portal for students to register for courses, pay tuition and more. View help resources for myNKU.
 
one.nku.edu: one.nku.edu is a student portal designed for single sign on of all the tasks you use most. 
 
Password Reset: Reset your password online. Or contact the IT Help Desk for assistance.
 
Printing: Students are given a print allowance every semester to use at NKU computer labs. Norse Print stations allow you to print on campus from your own computer or tablet. The Norse Tech Bar also offers small project/photo printing for a fee paid via All Card.
 
Software: Don't purchase software before checking out if they offer a discount to students. Active students can download and use Microsoft Office 365 free of charge . We also offer NKU Virtual Desktop that allows you to log into a lab computer from anywhere you have internet access therefore letting you use software that you might not have installed on your own machine (SPSS, Microsoft Office, etc.) If you are having software problems, you can stop by the Norse Tech Bar or contact the IT Help Desk.
 
Survey software: NKU has a campus license for Qualtrics
 
Syllabus Bank: Based on a suggestion from our student body, this portal has been developed to allow users easy access to undergraduate and graduate syllabi, in an effort to learn more about NKU instructors and courses before registering for classes.

Virtual Desktop: NKU offers students a way to access specialized software for free - no purchase or download of individual titles required. You just install one application and then log in and use the software you need through our NKU Virtual Desktop. You can use SPSS, Mathematica and more. Install NKU Virtual Desktop.
 
VPN: The Virtual Private Network is how you connect securely to NKU systems when you are not on campus. The systems you use most such as Blackboard, myNKU and email do not require VPN connection to function. But other software may require you to connect to VPN first.
