  • New Way to Search for Materials at Steely

We are switching to a new system to access Steely's collection of books and media. On June 1, 2015 there will be a soft launch for our new library interface. Here are a few things you need to know as you prepare for summer and fall terms:

    • The new interface used to search NKU library collections will have an improved look.
    • Faculty preparing course syllabi need to be aware that links to web pages that search our collections (like a link to the "NKUIRE Catalog") or to specific books and media in our collection will change. In order to prevent any last minute problems with broken links, we would like to encourage you to remove old links in Blackboard. After the switch-over is completed those links will need to be replaced.
    • There may be brief interruptions in service as we switch between systems. While the scheduled date for the soft launch is June 1 there may be interruptions just prior and immediately following. We will do our best to minimize any inconvenience.

We will provide more specific information as we approach June 1. Look for updates on Steely Library's Website.

  • Excavating the Past, Reflections on the Present in Southeast Asia

Come see the evocative images in our new exhibition, Excavating the Past, Reflections on the Present in Southeast Asia: People, Pottery and Community. Experience the beauty and diversity of the Khmer Civilization, as captured through photographs of world heritage sites such as Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and Bantreay Srei. Witness how modern potters make earthen ware vessels using traditional methods passed down from their mothers and their mothers' mothers before them.

The exhibit is curated by Dr. Judy Voelker from NKU's Department of Anthropology and is on display in Steely's Eva G. Farris Reading Room through December. Contact Michael Providenti for more information.

  • Call for Presenters: The Faculty Lunch Seminar Series

Steely Library and the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs are seeking presenters for next year's Faculty Lunch Seminar series. Presentations are informal, on topics of personal or professional interest. Sessions are noon to 1 p.m. in Steely Library on September 9, October 8, November 12, December 10, February 10, and March 16. Contact Allen Ellis, (859) 572-5527 for more details.

  • Exhibit Commemorating Covington's Bicentennial

Join us in celebrating Covington's 200th birthday with our new exhibit, Exploring Covington's History: Selections from Special Collections. The exhibit features historical photographs and artifacts from NKU's Eva G. Farris Special Collections. Notable items include Covington school photos from the 1890s—1960s and a toll book from the Roebling Suspension Bridge.

Admission is free and open to the public; just stop by Special Collections, Steely Room 106. Exhibit hours are Monday-Friday 1-4 p.m., May through December 2015. Contact Anne Ryckbost for more information.
