Fashion and Sports Branding

John Schlipp (Steely Library) will cover intellectual property tied to business branding. Beyond the traditionally recognized entertainment licensing of music and media, his presentation focuses on the intellectual property and branding of fashion apparel and of the world of sports.

Topics covered include:

  • Unique aspects of intellectual property laws associated with fashion and sports branding in the United States involving copyrights, trademarks, patents, and licensing contracts.
  • Commercial applications in which fashion and sports branding intersect, such as wearable technology and athletic footwear.
  • Additional business related topics such as publicity rights, sports broadcasting, trade secrets, counterfeiting and protecting your brands.

John is Associate Professor of Library Services at W. Frank Steely Library, and myLIBRARIAN for Accounting, Business, Communication and Mass Media, Computer Science, Construction, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Human Resources, Management, Marketing, Public Relations, and Sports Business. He is also an Intellectual Property Librarian and the manager of the IPAC: Intellectual Property Awareness Center at Steely Library, a designated Patent & Trademark Resource Center officially representing the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
