Steely Vending Machines on the Way!

We’ve heard your requests for additional food and drink options in Steely, particularly during late night hours and weekends, and we are pleased to let you know that vending machines are on the way!

There is now a ‘snack’ vending machine located in the front area of Steely’s first floor, located just across from the glass elevator.

A drink machine will be installed next to the snack machine in the near future.

    September Faculty Lunch Seminar:

The QEP is Here! What Does that Mean for You?

    Wednesday, September 12
    Noon – 12:50
    Steely Library304

As part of the reaffirmation process, every university within the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges must implement a Quality Enhancement Plan. For NKU, the time is now! Our new QEP, "GEARUP with Information Literacy," starts this fall and will last for the next several years.

But what exactly is a QEP? And why information literacy? And why do you need to know about it? This month’s Faculty Lunch Seminar will provide answers to all of these questions and more.

All NKU faculty, staff, and students are expected to know about the QEP, and this is your chance to learn more about what the QEP is all about, how it will be implemented, and how it might impact faculty. Presenters will also delve into the concept of information literacy, explain the need for information literacy instruction, and provide ideas for how you can integrate information literacy into your courses.

Bring your lunch; dessert and refreshments are provided.

For more information or to RSVP, please contact Allen Ellis at x5527 or

The Faculty Lunch Seminars are co-sponsored by Steely Library and The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Schedule Information Literacy Instruction for Your Courses

Will your students be doing research assignments this fall? If so, consider scheduling an information literacy instruction session for your course.

Information literacy instruction is available to all NKU courses, but is recommended for courses that have significant research or information use components. Instruction is intended to help students develop the skills and conceptual understandings needed to be able to effectively locate, evaluate, and use multiple types of information sources. To schedule a face-to-face instruction session, go to:

For online courses, librarians use Canvas modules and tutorial software to develop interactive assignments that engage students with information literacy concepts. If you’d like something developed for your course, request online library instruction at the library’s website, and a librarian will be in contact.
