SourceFinder (Interlibrary Loan) Policy

SourceFinder is W. Frank Steely Library’s delivery service for obtaining articles, books and media not held in Northern Kentucky University Libraries' collections. This free service is available to NKU students, faculty, and staff - provided the individual has no library fines. The library also provides this service to alumni and retirees, provided there are no costs to the library.

After your request is submitted, the SourceFinder team determines whether to obtain the item through interlibrary loan or information brokerage (our outside source delivery service). NKU requesters need not specify interlibrary loan or information brokerage. It is a seamless process to the requester, with the SourceFinder team making the decision as to which system to use. Journal articles are typically delivered electronically within 2 business days, most books and media arrive in 7-17 days. If materials are needed more quickly, the first or third floor Public Service Desk can assist in determining the location of needed materials.

The due date and any lending restrictions are determined by the interlibrary lending library and must be strictly observed.

There are no limits to the number of interlibrary loan requests you may submit via SourceFinder. However, when you enter over 20 requests per day, we ask that you prioritize by using the Not Wanted After Date listed on the SourceFinder request form. See SourceFinder FAQ for more. The following materials CANNOT be borrowed through SourceFinder:

  • Books to be used as textbooks.
  • Books to be placed on reserve for group or class use.

For more information regarding SourceFinder, please see SourceFinder FAQ or contact the SourceFinder team.
