The Winter 2021 issue of NKU Magazine takes a look back at 2020. How did Northern Kentucky University’s faculty, staff, students and alumni address racism and the pandemic during a year like no other? From a Black Lives Matter march on campus and the Freshman Year Common Experience to #BlackoutCincinnati and an alumnus-created Black Lives Matter shoe, the NKU community explored ways to dismantle racism and amplify Black voices. When a global outbreak—the first we’ve seen in 100 years—brought normal life to a standstill, NKU answered the call. Several members of our community spent their time easing the impact of the pandemic.
The issue also introduces readers to the Humans of Greater Cincinnati, a pilot experience for first-year students that is a collaboration between NKU’s Honors College and NKU R.O.C.K.S.
We talked with Sean Donovan, founder of Finix, about how he got his entrepreneurial start at NKU; sat down to discuss what happens behind the scenes of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” with registered dietician Katie Chapmon; and had a chat with Claudio Toro Serey about his path from struggling international student to cognitive neuroscience doctoral candidate.
And don’t forget to check out the Mystery Photo. Maybe you know something we don't yet!
