The Bruce Family Papers consists of papers from several generations of Bruce family members dating from 1816 thru the 1940s. This collection provides a view on the business activities of Henry Bruce, Jr. [1811- 18??]; the social life of a genteel southern family; a woman’s life of this period; Confederate views on slavery; the perspective of one southern minister on slavery; news of the Civil War and its impact on southern families and businesses; includes information about 19th century business development in the northern Kentucky/Cincinnati region including the Roebling Bridge, Covington & Cincinnati Bridge Co. and others; as well as early drawings by the famed American painter Mary Bruce Sharon.
Most of the collection was digitized and transcribed in 2007-2008 thanks in part to grant funding from the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives.
