The Civil War Diaries collection consists of three diaries kept by Civil War soldiers:

  • B.F. James - 51st & 52nd Regular Tennessee Volunteers, Co. H. Diary entries from Nov, 1861- Apr, 187_?

  • A.V. Amerman - 8th Michigan Cavalry, Co. E.
    Diary entries from Jul, 1863 - Feb, 1864.

  • William H. Masters - 94th Illinois, Co. B.
    Diary entries from Nov, 1864 - Jul 1865.

The original B. F. James diary is owned by the Perryville Battlefield State Park, KY.

These diaries are part of the larger Civil War Collection in Special Collections. The collection consists of a mix of original diaries, photocopies or transcripts of originals held elsewhere, military orders, and photographs. View the finding aid for the collection to learn more.

The diaries were digitized and transcribed in 2007-2008 thanks in part to grant funding from the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives.
