What are the benefits of R.O.C.K.S. Program?

  • Participation in year-long experience that will pair you up with peer mentors during your first year of enrollment and create positive peer relationships.

  • The opportunity to be placed in NKU R.O.C.K.S. living learning community and be permitted to move into fall assignments early.
  • Enroll in R.O.C.K.S. University 101, a class addressing the transition to college for African American students. 

When does the program begin?

  • The R.O.C.K.S Summer Institute runs Aug 10th 2020 - Aug 13th 2020. Arrival and move is by appointments on Aug 10 th 2020! Following the R.O.C.K.S. Institute, students will participate in the program for the full academic year. 

How much does it cost to be a part of the R.O.C.K.S. Program?

  •  The cost for R.O.C.K.S. is $100. Once accepted into the program, you will be sent a link to pay the fee. 

How do I pay?

  • Once accepted into the R.O.C.K.S. Program students will recieve a link via their NKU email account. The $100 payment for R.O.C.K.S. is due no later than July 10th

What is NKU ROCKS Learning Community? 

  • In conjunction with NKU Housing, you can begin your college career with a guide to success! NKU's R.O.C.K.S. Living Learnign Communities focus on students who are new to NKU through programming and community building! You will develop effective study habits and skills that can increase your potential for success while gaining exposure to valuable resources available on NKU's campus! NKU R.O.C.K.S. students are required to live in the designated Living Learning Community.

Who can I contact for more information?

Do I have to live on campus to participate?

  • No. The program is open to all commuters and residential students!
     

What if I can’t afford the fee? Are there waivers available?

  • Yes, waivers are available based on circumstances. Please reach out to the Director via email (aasi@nku.edu) or phone call (859-572-5214.
     

Will my son/daughter need money for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

  • Most meals will be paid for, but there will be a few that you will have to pay for on your own. You will receive a schedule that will clarify what meals are covered and when.
     

Is there a dresscode ?  

  • No, there is not a dress code, but please dress respectfully. Bring layers, the temperature may vary in each building.
     

What happens After Aug 11th?

  • Aug 12th is a free day for student to relax and or prepare for new student orientation and their first day of clases. 
  • R.O.C.K.S. students will join all incoming students for Orientation from Aug 13th, 2020 - Aug 15th, 2020. Students are required to participate in the 3-day mandatory orientation for incoming freshmen. More information

 

What should I bring to campus?

  • When you move in on Aug 10th you will be moving into your dorm for the year, bring everything  that you will need for the school year and make sure to follow the check list provided by the housing office that list what you can and can’t have on campus and in the dorm rooms.
