If you are a current resident with us, University Housing will be hosting two Housing Renewal Events on Janaury 26, 2023 and February 15, 2023. Times and locations will be released when they are available.
During the Housing Renewal Events, current residents will have the opportunity to view all Upper Division options for the next academic year in University Suistes and Norse Hall. You will not want to miss out on these opportunities to view where you will be living next year!
In order to qualify for University Housing, on-campus residential students must meet the following conditions:
Students who qualify for financial aid can apply their financial aid to housing fees after tuition payments have been satisfied. Student and/oir their parents/legal guardians will be responsible for the remainder of the university balance prior to moving into the residence hall assignment.
All first-year students who live outside of the exempt area and do not live with their parent or legal guardian and are under the age of 21 years by September 1 of the academic year are required to live in University Housing for their first academic year. Students who are married, divorced, or widowed; who have parental custodial responsibilities; who have served 6-months in the armed forces; who are enrolled in fewer than 6 credit hours (part-time status); or who are attending a university learning center are also exempt from this residency requirement. The full Housing first-year residency requirement can be read on the First-Year Residency Requirement webpage and on the NKU University policy website.
Residential students will have the opportunity to select their own roommates and room spaces. Below are important dates to remember for the room selection process.
You now have the chance to search for your next set of roommates. If you do not have a roommate but want to live with someone similar, we recommend requesting one under Roommate and Room Selection. There are a few steps you need to complete:
Winter Break 2023 Information
During the winter break period, students living in Norse Hall, Callahan Hall, and University Suites will be allowed to stay on-campus during the winter break period. Students living in Norse Hall and University Suites will be required to pay an additional fee for staying on campus during the winter break period. Winter Break fees will be determined by the NKU Board of Regents and communicated to students upon approval.
All other students will need to vacate their residence hall space and make alternate arrangements during the winter break period.
Norse Hall Singles
Based on feedback from students, University Housing will be converting the Norse Hall A bedrooms into single occupancy rooms starting with the 2023-2024 academic year. This will mean that the Norse Hall A bedroom single will have a new single room rate. Housing room rates are subject to approval by the NKU Board of Regents.
Renters Insurance Requirement
Residents will be required to show proof of renter's insurance in order to live on-campus. NKU has a partnership with GradGuard where residential students can purchase renter's insurance at a low cost.
