During the Housing Renewal Events, current residents will have the opportunity to view all Upper Division options for the next academic year in University Suistes and Norse Hall. You will not want to miss out on these opportunities to view where you will be living next year!

Housing Eligibility

In order to qualify for University Housing, on-campus residential students must meet the following conditions:

  • Residential students must be enrolled in at least 6-credit hours or more.
  • Residential students must pay the entirety of their university balance prior to moving into the residence halls for the Fall (August 17, 2023) and spring semesters or be enrolled in the University Installment Plan and make the scheduled payments per the Installment Plan agreement.

Students who qualify for financial aid can apply their financial aid to housing fees after tuition payments have been satisfied. Student and/oir their parents/legal guardians will be responsible for the remainder of the university balance prior to moving into the residence hall assignment.

First-Year Residency Requirement

All first-year students who live outside of the exempt area and do not live with their parent or legal guardian and are under the age of 21 years by September 1 of the academic year are required to live in University Housing for their first academic year. Students who are married, divorced, or widowed; who have parental custodial responsibilities; who have served 6-months in the armed forces; who are enrolled in fewer than 6 credit hours (part-time status); or who are attending a university learning center are also exempt from this residency requirement. The full Housing first-year residency requirement can be read on the First-Year Residency Requirement webpage and on the NKU University policy website.

Room Selection Process

Residential students will have the opportunity to select their own roommates and room spaces. Below are important dates to remember for the room selection process.

  • January 12, 2023 to January 27, 2023 - Current University Suites and Norse Hall residents have the opportunity to indicate on their housing application if they want to stay in their same room space for the next academic year.
    • Important Information: Residents who were impacted by the flooding issues in University Suites and Norse Hall and cancelled their Spring 2023 Housing and wish to retain their Norse or University Suites Room for Fall 2023, their request will be honored.
  • February 1, 2023 - Room selection portal opens for all new incoming first-year and transfer students
  • July 1, 2023 - Room selection portal closes for all students.  All housing assignments will be assigned based on their housing preferences and availabilty.

You now have the chance to search for your next set of roommates. If you do not have a roommate but want to live with someone similar, we recommend requesting one under Roommate and Room Selection. There are a few steps you need to complete:

  1. Complete the Fall 2023 New Student or Returner Application.
  2. In your Housing Portal, go to My Info and Roommate Profile and click on My Info. Ensure you are in the Fall 2023 term at the top of your page.
  3. Fill out any information you feel comfortable answering. (The more you answer, the more you may have in common with someone else)
  4. Go to Roommate and Room Selection and click on Select Roommates.
  5. Ensure you are in the Fall 2023 term at the top of your page.
  6. Once you click on Search for Roommate, you will be able to request someone. The more things you filter, the more condensed your search will be.
