The Northern Kentucky University Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities stipulates that a student may have a process advisor with them during the student conduct process. One of the primary goals of the student conduct process is to be an integral part of the student’s total learning experience.  The Respondent has the primary responsibility for presenting their side of the case, with a process advisor serving in a supportive and advisory capacity.  The process advisor may not represent or speak for the student.

How many process advisors can a Respondent have present during the hearing process?
The Respondent may have one (1) person with them during the hearing process to serve as a proces advisor.

Who can serve as an process advisor?

A process advisor can be any person who is not involved as a witness in a case.

What is the role of a process advisor in a hearing?

The studnet's process advisor may support or advise the student, but may not represent or speak for the student.  A process advisor may communicate with the Respondent during the hearing process as long as it does not impact the ongoign proceedings. Studnets may also request a temporary break in the proceedings to speak privately with their process advisor.

What if, in my role as a process advisor, I have procedural questions?

Procedural questions should be discussed with a representative from the Office of Student Conduct, Rights and Advocacy prior to the beginning of the hearing.

What happens if any of the above mentioned procedures for involvement of process advisors in the student conduct process are breached?
A breach in any of these procedures will usually bring about a verbal warning. After a warning, any additional breach will likely result in the process advisor being required to leave the proceeding.

If I am an attorney representing the student in criminal court, can I also represent the student in the student conduct process?
You may accompany the student to any meetings or hearings and support and advise the student, but may not represent them in the student conduct process. The student represents themselves.
