Subject: The NKU Campus Belongs to All of Us

Dear NKU Campus Community,

I share your concern and outrage at the hurtful propaganda displayed on campus by misguided individuals this week. However, I have learned over the years that the best way to combat negative and triggering acts such as these is with conversation, compassion and even more conversation.

The NKU campus belongs to all of us. Therefore, I want to encourage all students and the entire Norse Nation to continue to move forward with our equity, diversity and inclusion efforts that are currently in place and use your voice. This is something that everyone must do. Several student groups have issued statements voicing their support for a diverse campus, and I encourage you to lend your voice to support this effort.

Things you can do:  (I’m sure you all can think of other actions as well!)

  • Student orgs can act as ambassadors for NKU’s pursuit of diversity and unity
  • Host an event with a student org you don’t normally interact with
  • Organize a unity fair
  • Connect with someone that may be different than you
  • Participate in an event or discussion that challenges your point of view

Let’s show the Northern Kentucky Region that we strongly support diversity!

You can read our university’s official response by clicking here and you can learn about our Office of Inclusive Excellence by clicking here.

Now, let’s take a chance and believe that change will happen. As the late John Lewis would say, go out and create “Good Trouble” that moves us forward.

Go Norse!

Eddie
