Career Advising

Career advising is a one-on-one process that emphasizes assessment of self; exploration of options through co-ops, internships and other experiences; and learning job-search skills.

Selecting a major/career path based upon your skills, interests, and values is the foundation for both an effective job search and building a successful career. Topics of discussion may include:

  • Career assessments to clarify major/career options
  • Exploration and evaluation of options
  • Resume/cover letter critique
  • Interview skills
  • Job and co-op search strategies

On-Campus Recruiting

Approximately 350 employers visit campus annually during the fall and spring semesters to recruit graduating students for entry-level positions and/or identify co-op and intern candidates. Employers attend career fairs, host information sessions, and staff information tables. Many employers also hold interviews on campus within the Career Services.

You are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities since employers are on campus specifically seeking NKU students! See the HireNKU link on the left to log into HireNKU and obtain information on upcoming employer visits.

Mock Interviews

To assist you in preparing for interviews, Career Services provides an ongoing mock interview service. One-hour appointments can be arranged by calling 859-572-5680. These practice interviews will provide you with helpful insights on how to improve your interviewing skills and become more comfortable with the interviewing process.

In addition, Career Services sponsors a special Mock Interview Day in the fall. Local employers volunteer their time to interview, evaluate, and provide helpful advice to NKU students. Watch for announcements concerning this event. Students sign up via HireNKU up until one week prior to the event.
