Experiential Learning Courses with Community Engagement Programming

Efforts that are underway to explore various models and best practices for tracking and reporting experiential learning will also include developing mechanisms to capture information on community engagement programming. This will involve additional coding of courses, interim reporting by departments, and faculty providing more comprehensive information about the service learning components embedded within their courses. A team has been identified to fully investigate possible solutions and develop a comprehensive experiential learning tracking mechanism.

Measuring our effectiveness with community engagement is a complex process. Once we have processes developed and in operation for tracking experiential learning, we will be able to collect data on the breadth of our community engagement efforts that are tied to experiential learning courses. As a second step, we will refine the reporting mechanisms to capture information on the number of participants who are impacted by community engagement programming. These efforts will involve identifying and reporting the number of people served or impacted through programming, such as service learning courses, community service activities, public forums, conferences, and P-12 partnerships.
