Subject: Masking on Campus

Hello Norse Nation.

Welcome to new and returning students as we begin final preparations for the start of Fall 2022!

I am writing today with some important information regarding COVID-19 and masking on campus. As Provost Cecil announced in last week’s email, we have seen a regional spike in COVID-19 cases (see the recent message from Provost Matt Cecil). We are continually monitoring case counts and adapting our campus mitigation efforts based on the data.

Here are key points to consider as we begin the fall semester:

  • NKU strongly recommends masking indoors on campus.
  • Students should bring masks to campus with them each day.
    • Individual classroom, laboratory, and studio instructors may require masks in their classes as an extension of normal classroom management practices.
    • Employees may choose to require masking in private offices. In public spaces, masks will be strongly recommended.
    • Disposable masks are available in academic departments and other campus offices to accommodate students and campus visitors who may need one. Disposable masks are also available at the Welcome Center, Student Union and University Center information desks, Steely Library distribution desk, Norse Commons, and Campus Recreation during normal business hours.
  • If you have close contact with someone who is positive for COVID-19, or if you test positive, please view our online flow chart for guidance. We encourage anyone who has received a positive PCR test for COVID-19 to self-report online.
  • Rapid and PCR COVID testing is available in Health, Counseling & Student Wellness, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 859-572-5650.

As always, it is a pleasure to serve as your Vice President for Student Affairs. Our goal is to create the best experience humanly possible for our students, so stay safe and let us know how we can be of service.

Take care and Go Norse!

Dr. Howard
