Sustainability Engagement & Action Group

Upcoming Meetings

TBA

NKU Sustainability and NKU Faculty have teamed up to create the first Sustainability Engagement & Action Group (SEAG). As stated in the group name, we will be focused on actionable items that advance sustainability initiatives at NKU. All students, faculty, staff, and administrators are welcome to attend and participate in the SEAG.

Mission: The Sustainability Engagement & Action Group engages faculty, staff, students and the community in collaborative action to advance sustainability initiatives on campus and help Northern Kentucky University progress toward the interconnected goals of environmental stewardship, equity and student success.

As stated in the official NKU Sustainability Strategy, "Environmental sustainability is the responsibility of all members of the campus community and is fundamental to the University’s mission of education, scholarship, and engagement." We hope you will join us in creating collective action to advance sustainability at NKU.

  • Rewilding project: SEAG would like to work with Facilities Management to explore parts of campus that are currently grassy areas that could potentially be rewilded into natural areas. This would not only benefit local biodiversity, but it would also free up time for NKU employees tasked with cutting large areas of grass.
  • The SEAG team is working to complete the internationally recognized AASHE STARS report. This will help create a baseline for sustainability at NKU while bringing together individuals across campus from various departments to collaborate on a common goal. Student participants will also gain research experience while learning more about our university overall.

Completed:

  • Environmental Narratives through Storytelling. Environmental Narratives Through Storytelling, organized by NKU’s Sustainability Engagement and Action Group, focuses on bringing the NKU community together by telling our environmental stories and listening to others. You can tell your story through art, music or audio recording. Building the environmental community at NKU is important across campus, and this event will take place during Earth Week.
