Early Childhood Center

April 18, 2018

Dear ECC Parents –

I am very pleased to inform you that our efforts have been on-going in searching for solutions that will allow us to continue providing high quality childcare in a financially sustainable manner at Northern Kentucky University.  These efforts have resulted in an additional external nonprofit organization, The Early Learning Center (ELC) at UC, expressing interest in operating the NKU Early Childhood Center.

You are invited to attend one of two scheduled informational sessions.  These sessions will allow the ELC team to share information about how they operate and will also allow for interested individuals to ask questions.  Student and faculty/staff parents, as well as other interested individuals, will be invited to attend one of the informational sessions.

The sessions will take place as follows.

·         Tuesday, April 24, 1:30P to 3:00P, Room 296, Mathematics Education Psychology (MEP) Building

·         Monday, April 30, 4:30P to 6:00P, Room 108, James and Rachel Votruba Student Union

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Future of the Early Education Center

After exploring options for an outside provider to take over NKU’s Early Childhood Center, the university has made the difficult decision to close the center. The last day of operations will be on Friday, June 1, 2018. The center has been operating in a deficit for the past five years, and the university is no longer able to subsidize it.

We understand that this change may cause a significant disruption in the lives of the parents and the children who have relied on the Center for their child care needs.  Knowing this, we want to provide everyone with as much notice as possible to find a new childcare solution. We are exploring options to secure discounts at local daycares and will share any updates with you as we receive them. We will also be working closely with the NKU Office of Parents Attending College to identify ways in which to assist our student parents https://inside.nku.edu/pac.html.
