Steely Library supported its first Library Fellowship for Undergraduate Students of Color this spring. Undergraduate student, Elisabeth Kone is from the Ivory Coast and a junior majoring in Psychology with a minor in Studio Arts. As part of the fellowship, Elisabeth was introduced to academic librarianship, a challenging and rewarding field filled with mobility and advancement potential. Elisabeth worked closely with a mentor team of library faculty and staff and completed a bibliography of Kentucky artists, authors, and musicians. Her research project will be showcased in Steely Library’s digital repository and can be viewed online. She was awarded $1,500 for her participation in the program.
Excellence in research has earned two graduate students at Northern Kentucky University recognition as winners of the 2021 W. Frank Steely Library Research Award. Each spring, undergraduate and graduate students who participate in the Celebration of Student Research and Creativity project are invited to apply to for a chance to win the award and a monetary prize.
When many courses shifted online due to the pandemic, Steely librarians partnered with faculty in various disciplines to transition information literacy instruction to online modules in Canvas. Modules were downloaded more than 200 times during the 2020/2021 academic year and more than 700 students responded to a survey gauging the value of the modules.
