Dear Colleagues:

Thank you for attending the Fall 2018 Convocation on Monday afternoon.  It was wonderful to reflect on the past, celebrate the accomplishments of the 50th anniversary year and look forward to collectively writing the next chapter in NKU’s evolution. If you were unable to attend, I invite you to watch the full convocation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J3tFGuogGU.

I would also like to acknowledge the many talented staff and faculty who assisted in making this event such a success.

Congratulations again to Professor David Singleton for being named the Frank Sinton Milburn Outstanding Professor and to our new Regents Professors, Ken Jones and Jonathan Reynolds. We are fortunate to have such exceptional, dedicated faculty here at NKU.

I spent this week visiting with many of our colleges at their respective convocations and have been impressed by the work taking place across our university. In the coming months, I look forward to learning how we can build upon an already strong foundation in order to refine our focus on student success.

There is much work to be done in the next six months as we work collectively to develop and implement the three-year strategic framework for NKU. I will provide more information soon about how you can participate in the development of this important framework. It will not always be easy but it will be rewarding and I am confident that together, we will be successful.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce the new members of the Board of Regents:

  • Faculty regent, Dr. Michael Baranowski, an associate professor in the Department of Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Organizational Leadership. Michael is a former faculty senate president and will serve through June of 2021.

  • Staff regent, David Bauer, who is a plumbing and sheet metal mechanic, a former staff congress president and a member of the presidential search committee.  He will serve through June 2021.

  • Student regent, Hannah Edelen, a double major in economics and communication studies and NKU’s 2018-19 student body president. She will serve on the board through June of 2018.

I am pleased to inform you that NKU’s former Board chair, Rich Boehne, was reappointed to the board for a six-year term through June 2024. He currently serves as chair of the board for the E.W. Scripps Company.  For more information on all of our regents, click here:  https://inside.nku.edu/president/regents/board.html

Thank you for all that you to do serve our students. I wish you a great start to the fall semester.

Sincerely yours,

Ashish Vaidya
