Dear Colleagues:

As you are aware, NKU’s Board of Regents approved a recurring 3% compensation pool for eligible staff and faculty, effective January 1, 2019.

Based on the input we received from the HR survey conducted last month and Faculty Senate surveys conducted last year, the salary pool increase will be administered in two parts: a 2.5% merit pool and a 0.5% equity pool.  To be eligible, employees must have been employed on or before January 3, 2018 (i.e. the first working day of the year) in a regular position status and continue to be employed with NKU in a regular position status as of January 1, 2019, the effective date of the increase.  More details on the process including eligibility, distribution, key dates and training information will be sent out in the upcoming weeks so that we can complete the Enterprise Compensation Management (ECM) process prior to the holiday break.

Speaking of holiday breaks, I am pleased to announce that Wednesday, November 21, 2018 will be an additional holiday for the NKU community!  I hope that this extra day will allow you to enjoy some additional time with your family and friends.

Looking ahead to the Winter Holiday Break, I have decided to extend the break a few extra days too.  The Winter Holiday Break will now be from December 24, 2018 through January 4, 2019, with all offices opening on Monday, January 7, 2019.

However, I would appreciate your consideration of one request. Monday, January 21, 2019 is Martin Luther King Day – a federal holiday. In 1994, Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off." It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. The MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."

NKU has a long history of service and engagement, and in an effort to promote a greater sense of community, I am asking you to join Nita and me on Monday, January 21, 2019 to volunteer for a day of community service.  We are still working on the details of the day and will be back in touch at a later date with some additional information. But in the meantime, we want to get you excited about this effort and begin actively thinking about ideas to help our community and make a lasting impact!

Thank you for all that you do for our students and NKU.

Sincerely yours,

Ashish
