Dear Colleagues:

On Friday, January 18, the NKU community gathered to celebrate the beginning of a new semester with the 2019 Spring Convocation.

Instead of the traditional format, we came together to view a documentary film entitled, “Unlikely: In Search of a Better U,” by filmmakers Adam and Jaye Fenderson. The screening was followed by a panel discussion that brought forth various viewpoints regarding access and completion for traditional, post traditional and multigenerational learners.

The stories of the five students that were profiled are reminiscent of so many of our own students.  As a follow-up to the spring convocation, I encourage you to attend one of the following TalkShops so you can share your reactions to the film and ideas we could potentially think about incorporating into NKU’s strategic framework.

  • Thursday, February 7:  3 – 4 p.m., Otto M. Budig Theater
  • Thursday, February 14:  10 – 11 a.m., Otto M. Budig Theater

We owe it to our students, as well as the communities they we serve, to aggressively pursue an understanding of the obstacles they may face. Spring Convocation was another step in what I hope will be an ongoing exploration of the challenges to higher education. Please join me in the pursuit of making access, completion, and career & community engagement more “likely” for more people through the development of bold, innovative student-centered strategies.

Sincerely,
Ashish
