Dear Colleagues,

It’s hard to believe 2019 is coming to a close and we are approaching the holiday break. This past Saturday, we proudly celebrated Fall Commencement with our students and their families. Experiencing the culmination of their educational journey at NKU is a powerful reminder of the impact that we make on their lives and in the region. It’s why we are here and how we all contribute to their success.

2020 is a few short weeks away. The new year brings the start of our Spring Semester and exciting events like the Inaugural Student Success Summit and the 2020 NKU Innovation Challenge. It also marks some changes for our Commonwealth. We look forward to meeting with our new Governor Andy Beshear, to discuss his vision for Kentucky and to share NKU’s priorities in the 2020 legislative session.

Pension remains top of mind in the coming year. In the months since House Bill 1 (HB1) passed, we have been reviewing the bill’s financial impact on our employees. We worked in partnership with Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University on a request for proposal for services to assist the universities to analyze the options in HB1. After receiving proposals from 8 consulting firms, the universities selected Sibson Consulting and will immediately begin working with them to analyze the options.

We know there are many questions surrounding pension, and we are working to provide as many answers as we can. You can also visit the Pension Central website and send any questions to nkupension@nku.edu. I will continue to share updates as there are developments or new information available.

We have accomplished a lot of important work this year, and we should all be proud of our roles in helping our students have fulfilling careers and lead meaningful lives. Thank you for your continued support of our students and your commitment to NKU. Finally, a special thank you to those who will be working over the break.

I wish you a safe and happy holiday season with family, friends and loved ones, and best wishes for a great 2020.

Sincerely yours,
Ashish
