Dear Campus Community:

In her recent email, Sue Ott Rowlands, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, announced her intention to step down from her position, effective December 31, 2020. Having served as Provost since January 2014, she intends to pursue new opportunities.

I am grateful for Provost Ott Rowlands’ leadership of the Academic Affairs Division and her more than 6 years of service to NKU. She served with two presidents and interim president Gerry St. Amand, providing steady leadership to our academic enterprise during the transitions. Over the years, Sue has demonstrated her commitment to NKU in many ways, most recently leading our COVID-19 Preparedness Team and helping navigate our response to the pandemic.

I appreciate the fact that Sue has notified us with time to conduct a national search for her successor. More details will be shared as we begin the process in early June. My goal is to have a seamless transition with the next Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs starting on January 1, 2021. The next Provost will have an opportunity to join a resilient, agile and passionate NKU community that is committed to our vision of becoming nationally recognized as a student-ready, regionally engaged university that empowers diverse learners for economic and social mobility.

Over the summer, we will restart our search for the next Vice President of Student Affairs. It is critical that those we select reflect our vision and values. I look forward to engaging the entire campus community in the search process – from appointing a search advisory committee to the on-campus visits.

Please join me in thanking Provost Sue Ott Rowlands for her service to our university and wishing her the best in her future endeavors.

Sincerely,
Ashish Vaidya
