Costs and Health Insurance Information

NKU does NOT offer a student health insurance plan for domestic students.

NKU does NOT require students to have health insurance (with the exception of International Students that are required by law to have insurance). However, the American health care system is very expensive and NKU strongly encourages ALL students to maintain adequate health insurance coverage. Fast and convenient access to health care is important for students to avoid disruption of their studies and significant financial hardship should major medical care be required due to an unforeseen illness or injury.

The Student Health Clinic provides acute and primary health care services to NKU students.

Our Nurse Practitioners are credentialed and "in-network" providers for:

• Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
• Cigna
• Humana
• Lewermark (International Student Insurance)
• Tricare
• United Health Care
• MedBen
• Kentucky Medicaid plans

While many of our services are covered by health insurance plans, it is recommended that each individual check his/her plan for coverage details.

• The SHC is able to accept cash, checks, credit card, and Health Savings Account (HSA) payments. The amount charged per visit is based upon the type of the service provided.
• Copays are due at the time of the visit. 
• SHC staff will file the claim with your insurance provider but you will be responsible for any amount that is not covered by your insurance (co-insurance or deductibles). 
• Please bring your insurance card (or a picture of it) with you to each visit.
