The Academic Commons will consolidate appropriate academic student support services within a single administrative unit and potentially physical location.

The goal of the Academic Commons is to:

  • Create a one-stop shop for triage and intervention for students who face academic hurdles
  • Consolidate a great many separate units into one administrative structure with a single, coordinated strategy
  • Allow for more nimble change and adjustment of academic support services as audiences change

  • December 2022: Workgroup composed of faculty, staff, and students formed to begin consideration of organizational structure and contents of the Academic Commons
  • January 2023: Workgroup's first meeting and charge presented by the Provost
  • March 15, 2023: Resolution to establish Academic Commons is approved by the Board of Regents
  • March and April 2023: Presentation of Academic Commons vision to university governance groups
  • August and September 2023: Vetting through collegial governance and student focus groups
  • October 2023: Implementation recommendations presented to the President
  • January 2024: Initial phase of Academic Commons organizational structure implemented

We're listening.

While our workgroup has representation from faculty, staff and students from across campus, we welcome any feedback you wish to provide.
