Last year, we embarked on a review of our current learning management system, Blackboard, because our contract was about to expire. With each dean's recommendation, we created a committee representing a broad cross section of faculty members. The role of this committee was to create a list of requirements and evaluate LMS software packages for best fit. To ensure inclusiveness, we also distributed a campus-wide survey, scheduled listening tours, and provided product demonstrations to gather additional feedback from all interested faculty.

After extensive hours of testing, discussions and evaluations, the LMS committee recommended that our next LMS system be Canvas. This recommendation was approved unanimously by both the IT Advisory Committee and the IT Policy Council.

Switching our LMS systems is a large undertaking. CITE and IT will be working together over the next year to provide training, course transfers and infrastructure support for the conversion from Blackboard to Canvas. While this conversion will happen in phases, we expect full implementation for Summer of 2018.  View the timeline for more detailed activities.

We are excited about the new features and functionality Canvas will bring to our campus! CITE will be contacting faculty and staff through email to provide more information about trainings and conversion plans.  For additional information, contact CITE.
