Tell me about life pre-NKU. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small suburb 20 minutes from Cincinnati with my mom and little brother.

Why did you choose NKU? What kept you here?
I’m a non-traditional student and this was not my first rodeo. While I was completing my associate’s degree, I had several mentors that recommended NKU for their awesome Cybersecurity education program.

When I did more research on the university, I discovered that there was a great pathways program that would help me move on to my bachelor’s degree here at NKU.

Once I made it to NKU, the environment was so welcoming. There were so many interesting student organizations and ways to pursue my passions with other students!

Can you tell me a little about what you're studying here?
I study Cybersecurity as a focus for my degree at NKU. I study how to create and implement solutions that help organizations and individuals protect their information or data. The cool thing about the field of cybersecurity is that it is very fast paced and always changing.

Could you tell me about the best of your experiences as an NKU student so far?
Being a part of NKCyber ,the cybersecurity student organization on campus, has been very rewarding! It has been a lot of fun for me, and I learn so much from my peers there.

Have you had any memorable internships or co-op experiences?
So many great companies have come to NKU recruit students for internships and Co-ops. My favorite internship was with Booz Allen Hamilton and I had the opportunity to work for a recently-acquired startup called Morphick as a Cyber Threat Analyst Intern. That internship really cemented my passion for all things Cybersecurity.

What kind of job would you like to have after you graduate?
I’ve actually accepted a Full-time position last semester with GE Aviation as part of their Digital Technology Leadership Program upon my graduation in this semester. I’ll have the opportunity to work with many different parts of the GE business while developing my both my business and technical skills!

Describe NKU in one word.
Dope.

What’s your favorite class?
My favorite class was CIT 485 Advanced Cybersecurity. Nearly everything I learned in that class was relevant or practiced in my cybersecurity-focused internships.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? What makes that spot so special?

The Griffin Hall Student lounge rooms--great for naps.

Where’s the best place to study on campus?

The Steely Library bottom floor is perfect for getting away and just getting a study flow on.

What is your greatest passion?
I’m a bartender in the downtown area. I love making the perfect drink for someone and seeing their face light up. But I really love just connecting with different people from all different backgrounds and there are so many great people to meet on NKU’s campus from faculty, staff and students.

What is your favorite NKU memory?

The first time I had the opportunity to be the team Captain for the Cyber Defense team. We were a newer team and we weren’t even sure how we were going to even compete. When we found out that we won first place in the state of Kentucky, it was such a joyful experience.

What advice would you give to a first-year student?
Get involved--find groups that you can have the opportunity to express yourself. Whether it’s through arts, sports, computers or food, there is an organization that is for you out there and if not, you can create it.
