“Brandelyn is selfless in her dedication to all issues of inclusivity, diversity and equity at NKU and beyond. Her knowledge on these subjects and clear and compassionate message serve to inform and invite others to the conversation; conversations that are not always easy or comfortable. Brandelyn began ALLIED Zone training at NKU, serves with SAFE and is involved in many other initiatives that impact all members of our community. I can think of no better recipient for this award. Brandelyn is a phenomenal educator, mentor and NKU community member. She has served in multiple equity and inclusion capacities across campus and has contributed to equitable practices in her department and our campus at large. At the desire of graduate students in the ed leadership program, and with input and partnership from learning associates in the doctorate program, Brandelyn has created an equity and inclusion certificate program for the Educational Leadership program at NKU."

Dr. Brandelyn Tosolt

What is your favorite thing about NKU?
Our students! We get the opportunity to support students–undergraduates, masters and doctoral – who are changing the trajectory of their entire extended family through attending and graduating from college. I love our students’ curiosity, their determination and their willingness to try.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? What makes that spot so special?
I love the benches surrounding the green space right in the center of campus. You get the energy of folx moving from the Student Union to classrooms, the blasts of music from the Fine Arts Center, student groups tabling and those taking well-deserved naps in the trees. It’s everything a college campus should be.

What is the first word that comes to mind when you think about NKU?
Opportunity. Our students have the opportunity to shape their futures here, and I’ve had many, many opportunities to stretch and grow here at NKU.

What is your favorite way to spend your free time?
My family is big into board games, so we often play super nerdy ones that take several days and most of the kitchen table! I’m also a big reader. In the summer, I can be found riding the biggest, fastest roller coasters I can get my hands on.

What is your greatest passion?
Who can know?!?! I’m passionate about equity and justice. I’m passionate about access. I’m passionate about people’s lived experiences being what they desire them to be. I’m passionate about knowledge and inspiration. I’m lucky to be able to touch on a lot of those things almost every day.
