What is your favorite thing about NKU?
I love the start of a new academic year. Campus comes back to life as students, faculty and staff return to campus, and there is a fresh buzz that comes with this time. It’s a fresh start full of so many new things–it’s almost impossible not to caught up in the excitement!
Where is your favorite spot on campus? What makes that spot so special?
As chair of the math & stat department, I feel like I have to say the fourth floor of MEP! In all honesty, we have awesome atrium space where students congregate in community. It’s a space where they discuss coursework and future plans. It’s also a space where faculty have the opportunity to interact with students outside of the classroom and serve as informal mentors.
What is the first word that comes to mind when you think about NKU?
Transformative–I hope the time students spend at NKU transforms them into informed global citizens. As they bring new ideas and experiences to campus, they challenge the faculty to evolve and transform the educational experience.
What is your favorite way to spend your free time?
Put me on a beach with a book! That doesn’t happen as often as I would like, so I also spend time baking, reading and I’ve recently been learning to throw pottery on a wheel.
What is your greatest passion?
I love helping students transition into the next phase of their life. For most, college is a formative experience–a place where you collect people to cheer you on and challenge you to grow. Having the chance to build into students in that way is a huge responsibility but one that comes with great rewards.
