“Rae’s door is always open, and she is a supportive resource for any student, staff or faculty member who comes across her path. Rae is a person that gives 100 percent to all that she does. During her time here at Northern Kentucky University, she helped to shape the Center for Student Inclusiveness into a department that students call a home away from home. She played an instrumental role in increasing the retention rate of URM students on our campus by serving as an advocate and making sure they had support by being truly accessible and making sure they knew about all the resources on campus.  Rae’s commitment to justice drives her to put in far more energy and time than it seems like one person should possess. She creates spaces where everyone who enters feels heard, respected and welcomed."

What is your favorite thing about NKU?
Our community! We have so many brilliant and committed students, staff, and faculty who contribute to the richness of our community. We make NKU what it is; without each of us, NKU might be a completely different place. I love that there are so many people from all corners of campus who are committed to advancing and embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and that that we are continuing to challenge our community to build together better, stronger, and more consistent DEI initiatives.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? What makes that spot so special?
My favorite spot on campus is my office in the Center for Student Inclusiveness. My office door is always open and I have the privilege of spending time with students throughout the entire day. I love that our Center is so busy and the energy from the students is contagious. It’s really a special place on campus and I love that my office allows me to share space with our students on a regular basis.

What is the first word that comes to mind when you think about NKU?
Opportunity.

What is your favorite way to spend your free time?
I love reading, learning, spending time with friends and family and unapologetically posting hundreds of pictures of my cats, Alice and Steve.

What is your greatest passion?
I am passionate about creating, collaborating and finding solidarity in feminist sisterhood. I am passionate about education and believe learning happens in all spaces. I am passionate about challenging and dismantling the patriarchy and intentionally working towards a system that values anti-oppression and equity.

Tell us anything else about yourself and/or NKU that you want folks to know.
I come from many brilliant women, and I celebrate Women’s History Month with and for all of the women who have contributed greatness to my life. I will graduate in May from NKU’s Doctorate of Education program (which I highly recommend to anyone interested in pursuing a doctoral degree!). Find me at @raeloftis on Instagram and Twitter.
