Degrees: BSW, BS Sociology ('15)

What are you up to now?

I am currently living in Philadelphia with my cat Franklin and (as of May 15) my BFF and fellow NKU alum, Katie! I work for a nonprofit called Better Tomorrows and I am responsible for directing social services at an affordable housing community in North Philly. We provide outcomes-based programming, after-school and summer programs for children, and case management services to over 150 families on-site! I am also the founder and Executive Director of a nonprofit called Punk Talks, which provides free therapy and mental health services to music industry workers.

How did NKU help you on your journey?

I cannot say enough positive things about my NKU experience! The social work program more than adequately prepared me for my career, I continue to stay involved with the Philadelphia chapters of my sorority, (Phi Sigma Sigma), and COEHS was able to place me in a job immediately after graduation thanks to Kathy Howard and the PCWCP program. I was totally ready to begin my graduate program at University of Louisville online and I have never struggled to find employment since leaving. I miss NKU, but I am living my actual dream today because of it!

What is some advice you would give to prospective/current students?

College is really hard, so don't hesitate to use the resources available to you! Talk to your professors--they really DO care about you! Utilize campus counseling, talk to your RA, and find a community within the NKU community that can empower you to be the best version of yourself. Also, the whole idea of college being the best time of your life and all your good years being behind you when you leave must have gone to a different college--my years at NKU were amazing, but my time since has been incredible because NKU prepared me so well!
