Dear Campus Community:

I’m writing to share very sad news of the passing of one of our faculty members, Robert Kues. Rob joined NKU in 1998 and was a longstanding member of our Biology Department. He died on October 27, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Molly– his partner of more than 20 years, his family and friends.

Rob loved teaching and inspiring his students. He did not have any biological children, but his colleagues said he considered his students as his own. Teaching was truly his calling and his passion.

When one of our campus community passes, it affects all of us. This is especially true for the students who were learning from him, and faculty and staff who worked with Rob throughout this semester and over the years. His passing will have a deep impact, and please know that you are never alone. Please reach out and ask for the help and support you need. For our students, Health, Counseling, and Student Wellness’ counselors and support services can be reached by calling 572-5650. We also have a 24-hour crisis line at 859-572-7777, in addition to the national crisis line available at 1-800-784-2433 or by texting 741741. For our faculty and staff who knew Rob, University Wellness provides the Employee Assistance Program through Aetna. It offers online resources and counselors available anytime.

Now more than ever, it is important to take care of yourself and your mental and physical wellbeing. We are all members of Norse Nation family, and we all are here to support each other. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, colleagues and his students.

With my deepest sympathy,
Ashish Vaidya
