Subject: SGA Update

Last week, we announced the election of Aliya Cannon and Chris Roat as president and vice president of the Student Government Association. With the election of the Cannon administration, we are poised to move forward with discussions around how to engage in civil discourse, how to expand senate representation, how to expand collaboration opportunities, and how to ensure that all student voices are heard. In addition, it is important to reinforce to the campus community, the role Student Government plays in the university’s governance structure.

In speaking with both administrations, we have identified a path forward that includes creating a proper transition of leadership and providing an opportunity for engagement by the student body. The transition will be taking place between now and April 26th when all new officers and senators will be installed. Before that date, the newly elected President, Vice President, and I will hold two town hall meetings to hear concerns and solicit input from all students as we prepare for the 21-22 academic school year. The sessions will be April 15th, 5:00-6:00 p.m. and April 20th, 4:00-5:00 p.m. Both meetings will be conducted in a virtual format and will allow students, faculty, and staff to participate. Links to these engagements will be provided later in the week.

Thanks in advance for your continued support and Go Norse!

Sincerely,

Dr. Eddie Howard
