Subject: Fall 2021 Housing Update

Dear Norse Nation,

In the spirit of creating a “Reimagined U,” I am excited to announce the opening of our newest residential community on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. Yet to be named, this new facility will contain 297 beds in a suite-style format and will provide a living learning environment for our students in the Boothe Village. The facility is scheduled to open Thursday, August 19th, and will be a state-of-the-art facility sure to cater to the needs of the NKU student.

The opening of this new facility gives the office of University Housing and Residence Life an opportunity to make some needed improvements in key facilities on the east side of campus. Therefore, we have decided to take Callahan Hall offline for the 2021-2022 academic school year to allow for a $3 million infrastructure improvement project including installation of new security cameras for enhanced safety. The goal is to reopen Callahan Hall for the Fall 2022 semester. Students currently assigned to Callahan will be reassigned to spaces within Boothe Village or Northern Terrace. Students residing in Northern Terrace will continue to have shuttle service as well as dining options in the Bistro located in the Callahan Hall location.

Our ultimate goal is to create the most ideal experience for our students while still allowing the Callahan improvements to move forward without adversely impacting the residential experience. As always, our mission is to create the best experience humanly possible for our students. To achieve that mission, a renewed focus on the residential experience and well-maintained facilities is critical.

Thanks in advance for your continued support and Go Norse!

Dr. Eddie J. Howard
