Subject: Revised Community Standards and Student Rights

Dear Colleagues,

I wanted to let you know that the following letter was sent to students this morning:

Dear NKU Students,

I am excited to announce a revised set of Community Standards & Student Rights that will help our community co-create, live, and learn in ways that are consistent with NKU’s Core Values. In summary, these updates to the previous Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities help us create opportunities to empower student choice in the student conduct process, respond to behaviors that have evolved since the document was last revised, and begin to re-frame campus pathways for conflict resolution. In order to reflect our commitment to the safety of our community, this update also include NKU’s first Medical Amnesty protocol for students (and active bystanders) that find themselves in emergency situations that result from alcohol (or other drug) consumption.

As of today, all students should seek to understand their opportunities and responsibilities as a part of this revision. The updated Community Standards & Student Rights language, and more information, is available by visiting the Student Conduct, Rights & Advocacy office website.  Additionally, NKU Student Affairs has created the Norse Student Handbook to centralize the information students need to engage , learn, lead, and serve at NKU.

You may also choose to connect with Assistant Dean of Students, Dr. Bob Alston, as he takes the “Code on The Road” in upcoming information and Q&A sessions. The following sessions will be presented as hybrid in-person/Zoom conversations, and in alignment with any updated guidance from the NKU COVID-19 Preparedness Team:
